Evangelical is just another denomination like Baptist or Methodist.

This one is probably one of the easiest and less controversial of all of the myths. Evangelical is not a denomination. It is a characterization of Christians who traditionally and generally emphasize evangelism, hence evangelical. I have linked to this before, but Evangelical Outpost has a nice post on the definition, history and usage of evangelicals.

There are evangelicals that are Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Holiness, Church of God, etc. There are even evangelical people and churches within the Catholic and Orthodox churches.

The term evangelical is a very broad stroke that includes many different people from different denominations with different cultural viewpoints and different political preferences.
