Over at Two or Three, I posted some news about The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
The news is encouraging, as Disney is seeking to market Wardrobe as a "Passion of the Christ for children" - meaning they want to play up the Christian imagery and substance.
The impact of The Passion continues to reverberate through Hollywood.

So, just so I'm clear, when they torture the Lion for an hour and a half without hinting at the Lion's better qualities, that'll make for a good children's movie? Because, honestly, I don't think I'm going to take my daughter if the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe features even half the pornographic violence that was the entirety of the Passion.
Or, oooh, wait, is the Lion a dirty money-grubbing Jew? Because I don't want her to see that either.
Have you read the books Sam?
And the comparrison was not to the violence level but the support from the Christian community that the studios have attempted to garner.
As to the first insinuation about the Passion and the torture and not focusing on Jesus teachings - that has been dealt extensively elsewhere, but the whole underpinning of the Christian faith is not that Jesus taught good things, it is that he took the punishment for our sins that we deserved.
Did you get outraged at Kill Bill or any other violent movie? The Passion had an R rating, clearly not a movie to take a child to go see. I would not let a child go see The Passion, they wouldn't understand and it would probably scar them. I would never advocate showing children the movie.
As to the insinuation that the movie is antisemetic, every character except Pilate and the soilders who beat Jesus senseless were Jews (with neither one of them appearing as loveable characters). Jesus was a Jew. Peter was a Jew. Mary was a Jew. John was a Jew. How is that an antisemetic movie, when every positive character was a Jew?
Aaron,
Have I read the books? Of course - what dork didn't their formative years. However, being that I was only 10-13, I didn't notice the mentions of Christianity, although CS Lewis surely put them in there.
I'm just disturbed by the comparrison of these movies for children to the Passion of the Christ. (For the record, I did not see the movie. Everybody I trust though seems to indicate that it was both insanely bloody and hardly fair to Jews, even if Jesus was a Jew.)It is worth noting that there were thousands of Christians who'd lecture me about violence in movies who still took their young children to that particular movie - seems hypocritcal to me.
Anyway, at my most base level, I just felt like taking some potshots at you because you've been over at Insulted taking them at me. And because I don't think movies like Passion are really worth much of anything. I don't like flammable religious rhetoric, regardless of whose God is being discussed.
I loved that book growing up. I am excited about seeing it in film.
And (((ouch))), Sam. Anyone would be hurt by just spite. It's the way we're wired. Taking potshots just cuz you know where the goat is tied is hardly fair.
As to your opinions on the Passion, everyone is entitled to opinions on movies. So have at it!
Sam, I went ahead and emailed you since it seems there is more going on here. I honestly never meant to take "potshots" at you. I just wanted to discuss things with people who think differently than me.
Amber Lynn, Sam has not caused me to get upset. We disagree on many subjects and discuss them at various times.
Man, rereading what I wrote, I can see the confusion in my use of "potshots." Seriously, I just wanted to come over and cause a disturbance over here - how about that? I'm over here "disturbance causing."
But Amber Lynn, know that Aaron and I are at peace. We like each other. And we like to fight.
