Among other things the editors said:
...too many Republicans now believe their purpose in Washington is keeping power for its own sake. The reform impulse that won the House in 1994 has given way to incumbent protection. This is the root of the earmarking epidemic, which now mars every spending bill and has become a vast new opportunity for Member corruption.
...
But it is no credit to the performance of Republicans in this Congress that their best argument for re-election is the wartime flaws of their opponents.
It's not that the Republicans deserve to win. It's that the Democrats deserve to loose a little more. And sometimes I wonder.

Wait, wait, wait, what? Why do Democrats deserve to lose a little more? You're the ones who have screwed up the country, not the Democrats. What on Earth are you talking about?
Sam, this is all according to a conservative. Of course, you don't agree with me.
I was simply saying the WSJ is nailing it for me. Like the last line, "it is no credit to the .. Republicans ... that their best argument for re-election is the wartime flaws of their opponents."
Conservatives have a huge problem with the way the Democrats propose (or at least hint at proposing, since they really don't say much of anything, except "Bush is bad.") handling the war, taxes, illegal immigration, etc. We have been disappointed tremendously by the Republicans. We just don't know if teaching the Republican's a lesson is worth giving the Democrats control of the Congress.
