Somehow, someway Ted Dekker continues to please and surprise his growing fans base - Saint is no exception.
The tagline for the thriller is "Saint...He's not who you think." That statement could not be any truer. Going into this book, neither you or Carl Strople "Saint" have any idea who he is really.
The thing that makes Dekker's books so amazing to read, the twists and turns, making it equally difficult to review. Much of the plot revolves around the surprising revelation of Carl's identity. To avoid spoiling any of the amazing surprises Dekker has in store for readers, I can only give vague statements about specifics in the book. But I cannot praise the novel (and Dekker) enough.
The novel is able to effectively and dramatically combine the spy, thriller, and supernatural genre flawlessly, not to mention some romantic moments as well.
Anyone who has read any of Dekker's novel will want to get his latest. Specifically, if you enjoyed Showdown, you will love Saint. But one of the most amazing things about Dekker's recent works is that while he is able to connect each of the novels, the average reader can pick up Saint knowing nothing about any previous book and enjoy it.
What sets Dekker apart from most other writers today, is his thought provoking nature. After I finished Saint, I went back and tried to make all the connections. I thought about the parallels that can be drawn from the book to the Christian faith. I even used it as part of a Sunday School lesson the next day.
I lay in bed awake for 30 minutes running through the characters that had become so real to me. I wanted to know what happened to them next. I wanted to know what happened to them in the periods I didn't read about. I was hungry for a sequel and prequel. That to me makes Dekker one of the most gifted writers alive. That and the fact that I got the book home Saturday around 2:00 and had finished it before 9:00 that night.
The highest compliment I can give a writer is that they make me want to write. They encourage me to get my ideas and thoughts down onto paper. Not only does Dekker inspire me to write for the sake of writing, but I want to get my stories down before he publishes all the good ideas.
Read Saint and then like me, you will be dying with anticipation for Skin which comes out in April 2007.

I think, at this point, that you're trying to get free stuff from Ted Dekker.
That would be cool, but honestly, I really do love his writing. I really wanted to promote Saint. I like for other people to read the things that I read or watch the things that I watch so I can discuss them.
I try to get my wife to read some of my books, so I can talk to someone about them. She reads some of them. Most of the people that I know and hang out with on a regular basis are not readers, so online is really the only place to discuss books.
If you enjoy spy or thriller books, you can enjoy Dekker's novels. Are they written from a Christian perspective? Yes, but they are not preachy. I don't think "Jesus" was mentioned one time in Saint. I can't think of the last time Jesus was mentioned by name in his books.
Saint is like a Clancey novel mixed with The Matrix and some X-men thrown in. It's good stuff.
I thought Saint was more like a Koontz style writing than he's ever done--don't tell me Englishman didn't remind you at lesat a little of Edgler Vess from Koontz's Intensity... But I agree with you. Good review, this is one of Ted's best novels... it blows Showdown out of the water in my opinion.
Dekker is one of the best christian fiction writers I have ever read. Each book, is so different yet so GOOD!
I anxiously await each nre arrival to add to my collection.
Keep on writing, Ted
i think that saint is awsome, confusing by some words but after i read the book i look the definitions up and read it a second time i love suspence, horror, mystery, spy books so saint was a book that can read all day and i cant wait for the next book of ted dekkers upcoming novel, skin!!!!
Ted Dekker is an author that I have only known since April (April 1st actually, when House came out) yet already he is one of my two favorite authors. Showdown may have been good, but nothing compared to Saint. Saint was an amazing book that I couldn't put down, despite multiple efforts to get some sleep and do so. But that is beside the point which is merely that Ted Dekker is an author that I only wish I had come to know sooner. If anybody who reads this post has not yet read Saint, I'd highly advise it. Not only because I suggest it, but because if you like a story full of action and suspense, then you'd be missing out to not read it.
I haven't read all of Ted's books, but Saint was great. I finished it in 8 hours between school and homework. House was great, too. Can't wait for the movie and Skin, Ted's newest book!
I just finished Saint and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have read a few of his other books and have now be come a huge fan. I intend on reading every last thing he has every written. Personally, I'm waiting for the cookbook ;) I loved how he references all of his other books. I especially enjoyed the Peretti shout out at the beginning. I am a huge Peretti fan and was beside myself for their collaboration on House. Looking forward to his next book and the movies.
I was so surprised when I realized that Black, Red, White, Showdown, House, and Saint were all pretty much connected! But it's truly awsome! I've never seen writing like his. It's so interesting! once I start one of his books, I can't put it down. Even ones I've read before! I can't wait for his next one!
I'm a big fan of Ted Dekker. His books are always amazing. They never cease to amaze me. You can never truly know what will happen until you reach the end, which just leaves you wanting more. I especially love how each book has its own little theme. I thought is was awesome how he tied Saint together with his other books. I hope he keeps on writing, so that I can keep on reading. He totally rocks and is probably my favorite writer. I hope he continues to write more.
