With a blog named "The Wardrobe Door" it should be fairly obvious who my favorite childhood author was (and remains to be), but another writer that I loved as a kid recently passed away - Madeleine L'Engle.
I read A Wrinkle in Time and loved it so much that I went to our school library to find another book by L'Engle. I can still remember riding on our team bus as a JV basketball player pouring through Many Waters while rain tapped on the windows.
Her writing greatly affected me. It was only later that I discovered (same with Lewis) that she was a Christian. As a child, their stories resonated with me and my faith even though I had no idea why.
I know that L'Engle and I would have different opinions about many issues of our shared faith, but her quality as a writer is unassailable. As a children's literary giant, she will be missed.
