My newest blogroll addition

Today, I added to the blogroll Rhett Burns' blog - Avoid Being an Idiot. I've known Rhett for a couple of years and didn't know he blogged until last week. (To be fair, I don't think he knew he blogged until last week.)

Rhett has decided to work toward posting more often (haven't we all?) and is writing about ministry from a first person perspective - hoping to learn and teach as he goes along and to help others avoid being an idiot when it comes to being young and in ministry.

Having known Rhett personally, I know that he has a heart for Christ and a desire to see others grow in their walk with Him. If that's not enough reason to read his blog, here are the top ten things that Rhett and I have in common (because I know that is really what we are all looking for in a blog - more me*)

10. Both Duke fans indignant that Clemson learned to shoot free throws for one game during the season on Saturday

9. and even more indignant that they forgot how to shoot them the next game on Sunday.

8. Both prone to using our own made up words (me: intelligentiness, him: Yanni-licious.

7. Both know that SID is not a misspelling of STD, having been one for our alma mater.

6. Both know that sometimes SID is not far from STD.

5. Both married beyond ourselves

4. To wives that never read our blogs

3. Both have very cool blog names for very different reasons. Mine is much more scholarly. While his is much more...well maybe this isn't one where we are alike. (Just kidding. I love his blog name.)

2. Both have an uncanny ability to turn the most boring, casual conversation into a corny joke festival with the unfortunate inability to see our own corniness in time to stop it.

1. Both of us screw up often, but we hope that people learn from our mistakes and love Jesus more because of our writing.

I hope Rhett is able to keep up his pledge to blog more often. We could all use the help, especially me, in the avoidance of being an idiot.

*For those sarcastically challenged, please note that much of what I said was sarcastic and self-deprecating, except for the fact that Rhett is a great guy with a good blog. Go check it out.

Update: Here is Rhett's response. To #4, I've corrected my punctuation error, so now he looks like "an idiot." Also, if he would have looked at my whole blogroll, he would have saw that it's not in alphabetical order. Heh.

Despite his lack of alphabet skills, I still hope he keeps up his blogging. His presence in the Christian blogosphere is welcome and needed.
